January News!

Welcome back! After finishing up what has seemed like a long first week back, everyone has adjust well! We have seen a few more yawns, from both the students and the teachers but everyone seems excited to share their holiday stories. We started our new theme, The Five Senses! We will be reading a lot of books about the senses and we will be doing a lot of science experiments testing out our senses! We will also have a visit from Cullan's parents, who are eye doctors, when we discuss the sense of sight. It will be a fun and exciting theme for your child to learn about.

During January, we will continue with our study of the consonant letter sounds. We will practice formal handwriting lessons and introduce number writing. We will begin to recognize last names in print and write our first and last names correctly (first letter upper case and the rest of the letters in lower case). We will also practice counting backwards through calendar activities.

Valentine's Day Party Friday February 13th!
As part of our Valentine's Day celebration, classmates will exchange valentine cards. There are 22 children total in our afternoon Pre-K class. To make distributing the valentines easier, we ask that the children sign their own name on each of their valentine cards but PLEASE DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN PUT ANY CLASSMATES' NAMES ON THE ENVELOPES. Your child may also bring a valentine card for their buddy if they would like. Room mothers will be sending out information about treats and/or party games.

"The Bear Case"
Friday February 20th
Please mark your calendars for this very special event as the afternoon Pre-K class takes the stage for the play, "The Bear Case". As we assign parts and begin rehearsing for the play, we will send home any pertinent information in folders about your child's part and any costume and/or prop needs.

We also wanted to make you aware that during the month of January, the Pre-K teachers will be involved with Admissions screening for next year's applicants for Pre-K and Kindergarten. During screening days, at least 1 of the 3 Pre-K teachers along with a substitute teacher will be with the afternoon Pre-K class, while the other 2 Pre-K teachers are involved with the screening. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to email us.

We are continuing to collect Box Tops! Please send in any that you have at home! This will serve as our C.A.R.E.S. project for the month of January.
Soon, I will be sending home another order form for Scholastic. Thank you to everyone who has ordered books. We have been able to buy many great books with all of your Scholastic support!
