This week we focused on empathy training... "Not Now-Maybe Later". We looked at a picture to show that people like to do different things. In the picture, "Rita" was building a tower and "Shauna" was holding a box. They are both friends but Shauna wants Rita to do a puzzle with her. Rita is busy building a tower. She is not interested in Shauna's puzzle right now. We discussed Shauna's feelings and how we knew she was feeling this way. (by her facial expressions and how she is standing) We discussed how they want to play different things but does that really mean that Rita doesn't like to play with Shauna? Rita wants to build a tower NOW but she may want to play with the puzzle LATER. If Shauna wants to play with Rita, what could she say or do? What can Rita say to Shauna to show she likes playing with her?
We learned that people like some things better than others, and they like to do different things at different times. A friend is still a friend, even when they want to do something different from you.
